The Air and Space Force Studies Minor will prepare students with the the Air Force’s core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do, the virtues associated with each of these core values, and the importance of consistent application of these values. Students enrolled in the program (known as “cadets”) will receive the minor and be prepared to join the military as an officer upon graduation. This program provides a firm understanding of basic Air Force doctrine, missions, organization and operations.
The program consists of two phases: General Military Course and the Professional Officer Course. Each phase is four semesters. All AFS courses required of this minor are already being offered.
During the General Military Course (AFS 100-200 series), students can try out AFROTC without any obligation. In the second year, students will be introduced to the team and leadership fundamentals and compete for a Field Training allocation for the following summer.
Field Training is a rigorous 15-day program and an outstanding opportunity for students to develop skills as a leader and team member. Selection to attend Field Training is competitive and is based on performance, grades, and fitness during the first three semesters in AFROTC.
Professional Officer Course (AFS 300-400 series) enrollment is limited to students who have successfully completed Field Training. Upon graduation, all Professional Officer students are obligated to accept a commission and enter the active-duty Air Force.

Additional Minor Requirements
Leadership Laboratory is an integral and mandatory portion of the Air and Space Force Studies curriculum. Within the framework of the Cadet Wing, it provides a progression of experiences designed to develop each student's leadership potential and serves as an orientation to military life.
